Care For Your Pets at Home

Diet

Just like people, obesity is a major problem for dogs and cats, and it can lead to nasty diseases like diabetes. Luckily for us, pets are not nearly as fussy eaters as people, and they actually prefer to have the same diet day in and day out, so managing their diet is a bit easier than for people.

We recommend that you feed a premium quality diet (at the clinic we sell Royal Canin food which we consider to offer the most) and a measured amount each day. It’s easy to overfeed your pet, therefore to help, we can estimate the right amount of food to feed your pet. Using a premium diet that is perfectly balanced in an exact amount is the best way to go.

Our friendly nursing team would love to help you with any dietary enquiry, so please feel free to contact us on 9317 1200.

Water

In the hot months it is very important to have plenty of cool water for your pet available. Consider having two water sources that are in the shade and check on them regularly. Also in Perth it is very important to ensure that your pet can find shade in the middle of the day.

Bedding

It’s nice to create a little niche for your pet, and a special bed. Though trampoline beds are nice in summer, they can be a bit cold in winter and older dogs can find that they make arthritic conditions worse. We recommend using a semi firm mattress like a futon mattress as a bed. It is easy to get onto, supportive, and soft enough for older joints. We have mattresses available for purchase in the clinic.

Fleas

The best way to control fleas is with year round control. By the time we notice fleas on our pets there are millions of eggs in your house and around it, so a quick fix is not possible. Regular flea treatment ensures that things don’t get out of hand. Attadale Vet stocks cutting edge products that can't be purchased in pet stores, so for genuine results, we recommend you call our friendly nursing staff.

Though fleas are a common cause of itchiness, they are not the most common, so if your dog is itchy we recommend a vet check before you purchase any flea product. It may save you time, money, and a whole lot of aggravation!

When should I see a vet?

We recommend that you have your pet checked as often as 6 months. It’s amazing how many little things we can do to improve your pet’s quality of life, and the critical eye of a vet often picks things you may not even have noticed!

Outside regular checks, we recommend that if you have any concerns at all, if your pet is behaving at all strangely, at the very least give us a call. Little things can become very serious, and we would much rather help to fix them before your pet is really suffering. Often early attention is far less costly too. Give us a call, we are always happy to help!
